Establishing boundaries and protection around my energy and business with the help of Shield Bug

Shield bug helps me remember the importance of establishing boundaries and protection around my energy and business. I’m not saying this from a place of fear. I am fortunate to work with lovely people, and therefore it’s easy to forget how important these boundaries and protection are. I follow Shield Bug’s lead and protect myself and my energy so that I can better serve my clients.

My husband rolled his eyes when I chose Shield Bug to be one of my partnering energies for this year. To him, Shield Bug or Stinkbug is simply a pest. I understand how troublesome they can be because the family home in Hiroshima is full of them. They are rare, however, around our home in Tokyo. So rare that I take notice when I see one.

One day in December, I saw a Shield Bug just outside our front door as if it were standing guard. A few days later, I saw another one outside our sliding glass door as if it were guarding our balcony. Then, I saw one in front of the door to our building…You guessed it…as if it were guarding the entrance.

I found the last Shield Bug on December 31st, and I couldn’t forget about it. I wondered what Shield Bug was trying to show me.

Shield Bug reminds me to protect my energy

As my sphere of influence expands and I work with more and more people, I notice my energy fluctuates. Sometimes I finish a call and I’m super energized. Other times I feel exhausted.

Now I have a short ritual where I call on Shield Bug before talking with clients. It helps me consciously establish boundaries and protection – a shield – so that my energy won’t be depleted.

I’m also learning how to be mindful of the energy exchanged during the call and how to return the energy to its source when we are finished. I’m less tired and more grateful whenever I remember to do this.

Shield Bug reminds me to protect my business

Shield Bug also reminds me to set up boundaries and protection in my business, such as contracts and agreements. Sometimes I get so busy working for my clients that I forget to tend my business.

Even though I no longer have a brick-and-mortar office and my business is 90% online, attending to all the details of running it is still overwhelming. I try to convince myself that I don’t have time to set up proper boundaries and protection and then Shield Bug reminds me that I do.

Having a tax accountant look over my books is one way I protect myself. Legal support is also important and one of my favorite resources for that is Bobby Klinck’s Legal Templates Shop. Setting up rituals and systems for how I work is another way I make sure I use the boundaries and protection I have put in place.

I still have a lot of work to do this year with Shield Bug. I wonder what kind of boundaries and protection would be helpful in my home? In my relationships? With my health? With my money? In my future?
